The Declarations of Interdependence Relay is a year-long, continent-spanning experiment in community.

Fifty gatherings, in fifty different states, followed by a final celebration. Each gathering connected by a set of commitments to each other (and also a really cool wooden box).

That box? It started out empty, but is quickly getting filled with gifts and artifacts from each gathering. Not unlike this website, actually, because this is where we’re sharing stories and pictures from each of our community events.

Some of the gatherings are tiny, others massive. All are hosted by people who care— both for each other and about creating a country where everybody belongs. At every step of the relay, we’re support our hosts— through coaching, connections, and a modest stipend (because snacks don’t buy themselves).

How long will it take? Probably a year. Will we also come to Washington D.C.? Yes, definitely (potentially as the cumulative celebration). And the five U.S. territories? We would love to have that be a stage as well, but our first step is to get through the states. The whole idea here is that we’re figuring it out together. None of us have done anything exactly like this before, but what a gift to not have to go it alone.
